John Hanifin was elected unanimously by his fellow trustees to serve as Board President for the Perris Union High School District 1968-69. He succeeds Geo Schlatter.

The board's annual organizational meeting Tuesday, July 2, also brought election of Dr. Ann Parker to the vice president's spot Louis Krubsack was named clerk of the board and also representative for county committee election.

After not quite 20 minutes of public session, the board entered executive session. The closed session was not indicated by the agenda and was explained by President Hanifin as being for the purpose of discussing personnel matters concerning some matter

that should have been discussed before too long.

After five or ten minutes behind closed doors, Superintendent Robert Laubscher and Administrative Assistant Jim Sheridan left the meeting Laubscher asked back half an hour later. The meeting was again opened -to the public after being closed a total of one hour.

Before adjourning, the trustees voted to set the superintendent's salary at $16,750. The $750 increase over last year is a normal increase, Laubscher said.

Noticeable was the ab-sence, during much. of the executive session, of the usual strong murmur from the meeting room audible in the outer hallway.

Brought out during public session the fact that, starting in 1968-69, classified employees of the district no longer enter into contrats with the district but are givenen notices of employment after a six-month to one-year probationary period the employee gains permanent status and may be fired only with cause. The new method of hiring was mentioned when Laubscher reported to the trustees that notices of employment al ready issued had to be corrected because of errors in job titles and salary steps of the four employees concerned two will receive less pay than what "as originally determined, and they have agreed to the correction.
