Peggy, Welcome to the Hanifin site. We definately have Sheehys and Griffens on my Grandmothers(Brosnan) side. Its funny how many families in west Dingle used the same few given names over and over through the generations. So far I haven’t found a Cornelius on the Hanifin side but then again I haven’t found my Grandfathers parents yet.

I will start posting some of my findings as I verify them. I found both of my Grandmothers parents families in the 1901 census. They were right where we thought they would be in Doonties west and Minard west.

I now have to find the alusive Hanifins which were not in Doonties west where we expexted them to be.

My gt grandmother was Elizabeth Hanifin. She was born in Ventry about 1836. She married Patrick Kennedy of Ballyristeen and they had six children Bridget, Mary, John, Thomas, Patrick and Corneliue (my grandfather). Elizabeth died in 1876 at 40 yrs old. She had
two sisters and a brother. One sister married a Sheehy and the other sister married a Griffin.
Both sisters remained in Ventry. Her brother
emigrated but have no information on him.
I believe Elizabeth is buried in Ventry. I am seeking more information on this Hanifin family.
